The Calgary Marriott Downtown is pleased to announce that David Spero has accepted the position of executive chef for all of the property’s food and beverage operations including: catering for the newly expanded meeting space; ONE18 EMPIRE and the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre. In his new role, David will provide direction for the Calgary Marriott Downtown culinary team, with a focus on inspiring and delighting guests with signature dishes and beverage offerings.
Chef Spero has a vast knowledge of food and experience in designing impeccable menus for every occasion. Working with a team of event planning experts, Chef Spero and his colleagues will serve as the exclusive caterers for all property functions and events – providing innovative and customized menus to accommodate guest needs.

Throughout his illustrious career, David has held key roles in the culinary and hospitality industries and has worked award-winning establishments including: The Peaks Resort and Spa, Telluride, CO; The Grand Wailea Resort and Spa, Maui, HI; The Ritz-Carlton, Naples, FL; and Portofino Bay Hotel, Orlando FL. Most recently, he was executive sous chef at the JW Marriott Grande Lakes, Orlando, FL.
David grew up in New Jersey and started his career in the culinary arts working in local restaurants along the famed Jersey Shore beginning at the very young age of 16. He attended the Scottsdale Culinary Institute in Arizona.
