Canadians are ready to celebrate Food Day Canada 2021 on Saturday, July 31.
Across the country, people will be sharing good food and Canada will be lit up from coast to coast for this year’s celebrations. Almost 50 buildings and icons, from Government House in St. John’s, Newfoundland, to Niagara Falls and the Fairmont Banff Springs will glow red and white to show the country’s gratitude to all the good people who help get food to tables.
The initiative has created an interactive map that Canadians can use to find participating chefs and restaurants that have pledged to support Canadian farmers and agricultural innovation.
Food Day Canada recognizes the people at every step of the food production and service chain, from farmers and fishers to chefs, researchers, food processors, restaurant and grocery frontline workers, and more.
Canadians can celebrate via a number of ways:
- Take the pledge to shop, cook and dine like a Canadian on www.FoodDayCanada.ca.
- Visit one of the locations lit up red and white near you or shine your own lights at 9 p.m. for a wave of light from east to west.
- Enjoy Canadian-grown, Canadian-made food and drinks made at home or support your local restaurants and favourite chefs. The Food Day Canada website lists the partner restaurants and icons being lit up on the map.
- Share stories, menus, and pictures on social media with everyone using #FoodDayCanada and @FoodDayCanada. Follow along, join the millions of conversations, and enter to win prizes.
This year’s celebration will also honour the initiative’s founder, the late Anita Stewart.
“Canada is food and the world is richer for it.”
Anita Stewart
“It’s our pleasure to invite all Canadians to take part in Food Day Canada celebrations,” said coordinator Crystal Mackay. “The harvest is in and there are so many options to enjoy anywhere and everywhere. Come together at backyard barbecues, picnics, potlucks, patios and kitchen tables, in-person, and online.”
