QSR marketing meets pop culture

Restaurant operators continue to strive to create a buzz and drive traffic with innovative LTOs and partnerships that up the ante in customer engagement. Pop culture is one way that operators can raise interest in the menu by featuring something that is current and already getting attention.

Here are some examples of QSRs who have made pop culture partnerships popular in 2026 so far:

Dairy Queen has teamed up with the Savannah Bananas for the 2026 Banana Ball season. Along with creating an exclusive Savannah Bananas Split Shake, with soft serve, milk, banana, strawberries, chocolate shavings, and whipped topping, several activations and giveaways have been planned throughout the entire season. For example, when a spectator catches a foul ball, the “DQ Shake Snag” will be triggered, which gives new DQ Rewards members a free small shake through the DQ app.

Dunkin’ recently partnered with Vera Wang to launch Wedding Cake Munchkins, offering limited-edition “I dough” ring boxes for guests purchasing 25-or 50-count orders. The partnership celebrated National Proposal Day on March 20, and also encouraged recipients to include the ring box into their proposals in a social media campaign where the prize was an exclusive bridal experience at Vera Wang’s flagship salon in either New York City or Beverly Hills, CA to select the wedding gown of their dreams.

While not technically an LTO, Subway Canada has signed a multi-year partnership with the Toronto Blue Jays, featuring stadium branding, in-game offers, social media content, and contests to be held throughout the season. “With our coast-to-coast restaurant network, we’re excited to connect with fans nationwide and become a part of their game-day experience with friends and family,” said Courtney Hindorff, Managing Director, Subway Canada.

Wendy’s has recently partnered with DC to offer limited-edition DC® Rides Kids’ Meals, featuring 12 exclusive DC collectible toys, including six DC Super Heros and six Villainous Variants, and their DC Rides. Fans can order in-restaurant at participating Wendy’s locations in the U.S. or Canada, through the Wendy’s app or on Wendys.com.

More and more QSRs are broadening their offerings by adding a pop culture reference and a nostalgic feel to the menu. Today’s consumers are looking for more value and a memorable experience, and creative partnerships could drive more traffic and boost the bottom line.
