Top seven flavours in adult specialty beverages
According to Technomic’s MenuMonitor database, lime is the top flavour found in adult beverages on Canadian menus. Lime most often serves as a complimentary flavour to add freshness to a drink, such as a Cosmopolitan served with a splash of lime juice. Other times, lime serves as a main ingredient for drinks like in mojitos and classic margaritas. It is also often used as a flavourful addition to specialty beer cocktails such as the Iceberg cocktail at Original Joe’s Restaurant & Bar, made with Joe’s Blonde Lager and lime margarita slush.
Lemon is another fresh citrus flavour found in many specialty adult beverages, particularly in the warmer months. Listed 176 times on Canadian menus on Technomic’s MenuMonitor database, lemon is also a citrusy flavour that goes well with many other fruit flavours in specialty drinks such as orange, strawberry, mango, peach and cranberry. Lemon can be used in a number of ways in adult beverages – as slices, juice, lemonade or lemon-lime soda. Spiked lemonades are a particularly popular specialty adult beverage during the summer; examples include Electric Lemonade at Don Cherry’s Sports Grill, East Side Mario’s Blueberry Coconut Peach Exotic Spiked Lemonade and Kelsey’s Twisted Lemonade.
