Press Release
Joseph Richard Group (JRG) and Avante Concrete gave the Surrey Food Bank’s summertime collection efforts a much-needed boost this month by raising more than $20,000 for the organization with the return of their popular Epic BBQ.
Held at Avante Farms in Surrey, Epic BBQ is hosted by JRG’s Corporate chef and the winner of Season 2 of Master Chef Canada, David Jorge, whose family owns Avante Farms and Avante Concrete. The event is one of the Fraser Valley’s most unique summer dining experiences with an amazing array of dishes, desserts and drinks created by an all-star roster of JRG chefs as well as other local suppliers and sponsors.
On the grill, BBQ lovers were treated to Cuban-style whole roasted pig, Japanese BBQ salmon, Macedonian-style whole roasted lamb, tomahawk rib eye, smoked brisket and smoked chorizo sausage. Seafood lovers enjoyed oysters, prawns, Alaskan king crab, oyster po’boys, lobster and caviar. Other mouth-watering dishes included chef David’s famous fried chicken and Wagyu tartare. Epic BBQ is also known for its midnight table, which offers more seafood, braised beef cheek nachos, foie gras and black truffle poutine, and Cloverdale’s hottest donuts from Black Tiger Coffee.
Admission to Epic BBQ is limited to just two hundred guests who provide a donation to the Surrey Food Bank to gain entry. After a hiatus in 2017, the return of Epic BBQ raised more than $20,000 for the Surrey Food Bank, for a total of more than $46,000 since 2016. For the organization, which provides nearly 60,000 hampers and food support for families, recovery houses, safe houses, shelters, youth centres, soup kitchens, and specialty food banks in Surrey and North Delta, the donations are especially needed during the summertime.
“As thrilled as we were to be back to celebrate the talents and creativity of local chefs and food producers, we were even more proud to support an organization that does so much for local families,” said chef Jorge. “Supporting local charitable organizations is such an important part of who we are and what we do at JRG that we can wait to do it again next year.”
Avante Concrete and JRG are currently welcoming additional sponsors to provide in-kind or funding support for Epic BBQ in 2019. Sponsorship packages include invitations to the invitation-only event as well as other perks, which make it the sponsorship event of the year. “I want to thank Joseph Richard Group and Avante Concrete for their generous support and urge other organizations to join them,” said Surrey Food Bank executive director Feezah Jaffer. “Because we purchase food in large quantities at discounted prices, we’ll be able to stretch this donation to help feed the many people we support, 41 per cent of which are children and babies.”
