Innovative holiday LTOs continue to emerge

Holiday menus are continuing to launch as fall progresses, and while traditional flavours like peppermint and gingerbread still reign supreme, some operators are embracing a new theme for their seasonal menus. From green-coloured food items to turkey alternatives, here are some of the restaurants adding fun and innovative LTOs to their holiday offering:

McDonald’s is going green, making the Grinch Happy Meal the start of the seasonal menu, officially launching on December 3. The meal features your choice of a Big Mac, 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, or a McChicken, along with Dill Pickle McShaker Fries, a drink, and a pair of Grinch socks. Also new to the seasonal menu are the Frozen Hot Chocolate McFlurry and the green heart-shaped cookie.

Tim Horton’s holiday menu has recently been released, featuring the return of the non-alcoholic Baileys lineup, including Dream Hot Chocolate, Cream Coffee, Baileys Latte, Iced Capp, and Baileys Boston Cream Dream Donut. The seasonal menu also includes the Caramel Brownie Filled Ring Dream Donut, Hot Chocolate Muffin, Double Chocolate Brownie, and Candy Cane Hot Chocolate.

KFC has launched a ‘Cluck Turkey’ campaign, aiming to get guests switching their turkey dinners for chicken this holiday season with the Extra Crispy Festive Feast. The meal costs $25 and includes a three-flavour Gravy Flight, an eight-piece bucket of Extra Crispy fried chicken, biscuits, and two large sides of mashed potatoes.

Jimmy John’s, newly arrived in Canada, has just added a Holiday Magic Cookie to the menu, made with a sugar cookie, M&M’S, and topped with a winter sprinkle mix. To help celebrate the launch, guests can enjoy a free Holiday Magic Cookie on National Cookie Day, December 4, with any digital (mobile or app) purchase of $5 or more.

Though the Starbucks holiday menu has been available since November 6 this year, they recently announced the return of the Eggnog Latte after a four-year hiatus. The beverage features steamed eggnog and espresso, topped with creamy foam and a dusting of nutmeg, also available in an iced version. The Chestnut Praline Latte will also be returning, along with the Cran-merry Orange Refresher, Peppermint Mocha, Sugar Cookie Oat Latte, and Iced Sugar Cookie Cream Matcha Latte.

While pumpkin and peppermint still top holiday flavours, some QSRs are broadening their holiday offerings to incorporate innovative LTOs and menu items.
